About ADHDadultUK

ADHDadultUK is a small UK registered charity (1197347) run by adults with ADHD for adults with ADHD. Its strength is information: clear, evidence-linked answers to the questions that come up after someone starts to wonder whether they are ADHD — and the far more tangled ones that follow diagnosis, when NHS pathways, private clinics and GP surgeries fail to line up. It is a good first stop for an adult trying to make sense of the system rather than a place to book a service.

The charity's FAQ covers ground that many services leave out. It explains what an adult diagnosis requires, how to approach a GP (with a script to help), how Right to Choose works in England, and why a childhood diagnosis may need revisiting. It is frank about shared care — GPs are not obliged to sign agreements — and sets out what to do if refused or discharged without titration. It also covers medication options and shortages, travelling with medication, the DVLA, insurance, Access to Work and the Equality Act. Everything is written by peers, and it shows in the tone: practical, unshowy and alert to the gap between how things are supposed to work and how they actually go.

Alongside the written resources, ADHDadultUK hosts The ADHD Adults podcast, publishes the evidence-based Focus magazine, runs an active Discord community with spaces for assessment, medication and post-diagnosis support, and has carried out a State of the Nation survey of UK adults with ADHD. Volunteers also give free talks on the charity's behalf. It is open that, as a small charity, it cannot currently offer one-to-one support or individual advocacy, and it signposts to other groups, advice services and non-directive coaching instead.

Questions about ADHDadultUK

Can ADHDadultUK give me one-to-one support or advocacy?

Not at present. As a small charity it does not offer individual support or advocacy, but it signposts to other support groups, advice services and coaching.

What if my GP won't sign a shared care agreement?

ADHDadultUK explains that GPs are not legally obliged to sign, and suggests trying another GP, speaking to the practice manager, asking for written reasons and using the NHS complaints process.

Does a childhood ADHD diagnosis still count as an adult?

The charity notes that adults usually need to be re-diagnosed, and gives tips on gathering childhood evidence where records are missing.
