About B Squared Ltd

B Squared is a Hampshire-based education technology company that has built assessment and progress-tracking software for schools for more than 25 years. Its focus is pupils with special educational needs and disabilities whose learning does not register on age-related measures — the children and young people for whom progress happens in small, uneven steps, and whose schools still need to evidence it to leaders, inspectors and families. It is a tool for school staff rather than a service for individual families.

The central product, Connecting Steps, is web-based tracking software that also runs on iPads and tablets. It holds a set of frameworks for different starting points: Early Steps for birth to the end of the early years, Engagement Steps for pupils not yet engaged in subject-specific learning, Primary Steps for pupils working below Year 1 or outside their year group, and Progression Steps for specialist settings and secondary-age pupils with SEND, alongside Development Matters and primary national curriculum frameworks for pupils working at age-related expectations. It covers learners from birth to 25, and an optional set of advanced features uses AI to speed up report writing. Support is free, with a library of more than 40 training videos, and the software is used in over 3,000 schools.

Evisense is a two-way communication hub that lets schools share progress with parents and carers. Staff capture photos, video, audio and observations through a mobile app, and it can link to Connecting Steps so that recorded evidence and assessment sit together. The SENDcast adds free continuing professional development — a weekly podcast with more than 270 episodes and over 150 online training sessions on SEND policy and practice. B Squared works with special schools, early years settings, primary schools, local authorities and multi-academy trusts, including schools in Scotland and Wales, and quotes prices through its website.
