About David Wildkress
David Wildkress is a US learning specialist who runs Outside the Bell Curve, a coaching practice for neurodivergent adults and for parents trying to understand how their child thinks and learns. The work is aimed at people who have spent years being measured against a narrow norm — in school, at work or at home — and want a clearer account of how they actually process information, what holds their interest and which environments help or hinder them. All sessions currently take place online.
The practice is organised around three stages: Understand, Accept and Embrace. Clients first map their own processing patterns, then build strategies around them rather than against them, and finally put their effort where their strengths lie. For those who want a structured start, the U+A+E package runs over four sessions with guided reflection questions, a written summary of patterns and tailored strategies, plus a lasting discount on later coaching. People who prefer to skip the reflective work can opt for strategy-based coaching instead, which goes straight to executive function, organisation, time management and breaking tasks down. Parents can take a family version of the package, or hands-on coaching on routines, behaviour strategies and advocating for their child — with the aim of seeing strengths that deficit-focused reports tend to miss.
David brings personal as well as professional experience. He was identified as dyslexic at six and grew up with two older brothers later diagnosed as autistic and with ADHD. He holds a master's degree in education and a certificate in educational therapy, spent twelve years as a school-based learning specialist, including in San Francisco public schools, and was most recently High School Director at Bridges Academy in Los Angeles. Prices are agreed at a free 30-minute consultation, and a sliding scale is available based on family resources.
