About John Hicks Co Ltd
John Hicks is a counsellor and coach based in Sawston, near Cambridge, who works with young people and adults on anxiety, low mood, grief, workplace stress and self-esteem — and, as a named specialism, the emotional side of living with dyslexia, ADHD or autism. This is talking therapy rather than assessment or diagnosis: a place to make sense of years of misfit with school, work or relationships, and to rebuild confidence, rather than a route to a label.
Hicks holds a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling, is an accredited registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and has Enhanced DBS clearance. He has practised since 2021, after earlier careers as a scientist and senior manager, and describes himself as a neurodiversity awareness activist. He works in a humanistic, integrative and person-centred way, drawing on transactional analysis, with the client setting the pace. Sessions take place in his Sawston therapy room, by phone or online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, so clients outside Cambridgeshire can work with him too.
Support is structured in three levels. Level One is four 20-minute phone sessions a month, aimed at lowering anxiety and building confidence for people who find a full hour too much. Level Two is weekly hour-long counselling, face to face, by phone or video, with a discount for a block of four. Level Three is fortnightly workplace and career coaching, with a discount when two or more sessions are paid in advance, including WhatsApp text support between sessions. He also provides counselling through Employee Assistance Programmes for organisations.
