ND Birth by Victoria White

Neurodivergent Birth is a community interest company working to make pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period better understood and better supported for neurodivergent parents. It speaks to two groups at once: autistic, ADHD and otherwise neurodivergent people who are expecting, and the midwives, doulas, nurses and antenatal teachers who care for them. The underlying point is that standard maternity care — bright rooms, rapid-fire questions, unexplained procedures and changing staff — can clash with the sensory and communication needs of many neurodivergent people, and that much of this can be changed.

It was founded by Victoria White, a birth and postnatal doula based in Aberdeen, who also trained as a Traumatic Birth Recovery 3 Step Rewind practitioner and a perinatal emotional health and wellbeing practitioner, and whose own family includes an autistic daughter. She is the author of Why Neurodivergent Birth Matters (2025). The board also includes director Johanna Rhys-Davies, a lawyer with more than 15 years in maternal health charity leadership, and the actor Kimberley Nixon is an ambassador.

For parents, there is the online ND Birth Prep antenatal course, a podcast now into its fifth season, and directories of neurodivergent-aware doulas and antenatal teachers, with a Doula Access Fund covering free doula support for some families. For professionals, the CPD-accredited Supporting Neurodivergent Birth training is delivered to NHS trusts and independent organisations, alongside workshops, pre-recorded webinars such as Supporting Neurodivergent Lactation, and the free-to-attend Beyond the Birth Room conference during Neurodivergent Birth Awareness Week each December. Most of the offer is online and open internationally.
