About Neurodivergent Friends in Thanet
Neurodivergent Friends in Thanet (NDFT) is a peer community for neurodivergent adults in Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and the surrounding area of east Kent. It is entirely neurodivergent-led and open to anyone who is diagnosed, self-identified or still questioning — no paperwork is asked for. It is not a clinical or therapeutic service, and the people running it describe themselves as a group of neurodivergent adults rather than professionals. It is for adults only, so it is not the place for children's activities or parenting advice.
The heart of the group is a monthly social meetup of around two hours, usually with 15 to 20 people, which rotates between venues in Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, alongside a daytime coffee morning. Meetups are lightly structured, with a team member at the door, name and pronoun labels, and a short participation promise at the start, so newcomers know what to expect before they arrive. NDFT also runs creative workshops, community projects and Thanet Neurodivergent Pride, and is developing peer support programmes.
The group was set up to fill a gap in local provision for neurodivergent adults, with a focus on wellbeing, belonging, self-acceptance and self-advocacy. Its stated values are explicit: anti-racist, feminist, and LGBTQIA+, fat and disability positive. Beyond its own members, NDFT works with local businesses and organisations on education, awareness and tailored support to make their spaces more neuroinclusive. Upcoming dates are listed on its events page and social media.
