About Red in the Spectrum
Red in the Spectrum is a Sussex-based training organisation, run by neurodivergent people, that helps workplaces and trade unions find and remove the barriers that shut out autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, dyspraxic, dyscalculic and Tourette's colleagues. Its starting point is the social model of disability: the problem sits in the way work is organised, not in the person, so sessions focus on what an organisation can change rather than on managing individuals.
The organisation was founded by Janine Booth, an autistic trade unionist, author of Autism Equality in the Workplace (Jessica Kingsley Publishers) and the TUC handbook Autism in the Workplace, and founder of Neurodivergent Labour. She has delivered training for unions including PCS, NASUWT, Unison, GMB and RMT. Courses range from one-hour seminars on the social model and neuro-inclusive workplaces to a six-day CPD-accredited programme for union representatives, which can run in two or three parts. Sector courses cover the rail industry — shiftwork, safety procedures, legal duties and passengers — and the justice system, for barristers' chambers and advocacy organisations. All sessions are participatory and can be delivered online or in person anywhere in the UK and beyond.
Beyond courses, the team offers neurodivergent speakers, mentoring, consultancy on inclusive practice, and bespoke briefings, leaflets and videos. The organisation books the venue and learners; Red in the Spectrum shapes the content around them.
