About Spectrum Perspective by Ben Quick
Spectrum Perspective is an Australian online resource for neurodivergent teenagers and young adults — autistic young people in particular — working out the move from high school to university and into a first job. It is not a clinic or a booked service. It is a website, newsletter and YouTube channel that sets out, in plain terms, the practical knowledge its founder wishes had been easier to find at the same stage.
The project was set up in 2025 by Ben Quick, who writes from first-hand neurodivergent experience of the Australian education system rather than from a professional qualification. The written material is grouped into three strands that come up again and again in those transition years: social skills, sensory processing and emotional regulation. Alongside the articles, the YouTube channel carries videos of practical advice and personal accounts, and a mailing list sends new material out to subscribers. The site acknowledges the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, placing its base in Western Australia, although the content is written for readers anywhere in the country.
Its use to a reader is the vantage point. Much of the transition advice available to autistic school leavers is written for parents or professionals and describes the young person from the outside. Spectrum Perspective speaks to the young person directly, from someone who has recently been through the same systems, and stays close to the everyday settings — school, university and early work — where a mismatch between a person and their environment tends to show. The articles and videos are open to read and watch without charge, the newsletter is optional, and questions or suggestions can be sent through the contact form on the site.
